Saiko T. Kase is an interdisciplinary visual artist who frequently works with materials such as raw clay, hair, hand-made woolen felt, sprouting seeds and her own body. Her primary interests include time, experience, body and material concerning our finite existence, intense emotions, recurring patterns, and spiritual need.

Bio
Coming from Japan and from a background in economics and finance, she has completed her MFA degree at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Her exploration goes beyond the boundaries of the medium or art forms. Prior to her move to the US, she has lived in Japan, China and Singapore for both study and work.

Project
Life-time Project” first began with a hairpiece on December 20th, 2008 and was formalized in May 14th, 2011. The currently ongoing project consists of the collection of the artist’s finger and toe nail clippings, every year’s growth of hair shaved off at the end of the year and her ashes collected after cremation as well as their supporting documents. This project will culminate in a final exhibition upon her death. This project will certainly develop and change with time as a result of better planning as well as major life events. The artist intends to continue to exhibit the process and progress of this life long project until she is incapable of any conscious activity.
